The hospital is committed to deliver holistic quality ophthalmic services at affordable cost to all sections of society, particularly the deprived, under privileged and rural poor, within easy reach or virtually at their doorsteps. A unique feature of ICARE’s activities has, therefore, been the establishment of a network of efficient rural peripheral centres in the states of Delhi, U.P., Haryana and Rajasthan for screening and identifying patients for cataract and other eye surgeries at the base hospital at Noida. These are visited regularly by ambulances and staff on fixed days and timings to screen patients and transport those requiring surgery to the hospital. At the hospital they are kept for 3-4 days and returned to the respective centres on conclusion of surgical treatment. The entire cost of transportation, boarding, lodging, surgery, medicines etc. is borne by the sponsors, donors and the hospital and is, therefore, free or subsidized to the patients. In addition to regular eye screening camps, held at different places in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and the slum areas of Delhi, surgical eye camps have also been held for the last 2 years at Kinnaur (Recong Peo in Himachal Pradesh) and Ranikhet in Uttaranchal. Cataract surgeries with IOL implant were performed at both Recong Peo and Ranikhet. The response from both these places was overwhelming as patients from outlying villages covering a wide area came to the hospitals at Ranikhet and Recong Peo for the surgeries conducted by the ICARE team. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
