All eye care
that you need in a lifetime |
|
"O say, what is that thing
called Light,
Which I must ne'er enjoy;
What are the blessings of sight
O tell your poor blind boy."
There is nothing more precious to us in our lives than our eyes.
Eyes make the difference between light and darkness, between hope
and despair.
There is hope now for all those in need of specialized eye care: The
ICARE Eye Hospital and Post Graduate Institute, Noida, India, offers
excellent eye care facilities under one roof. Advanced ophthalmic
aid in India is readily available in urban areas. Because of
prevailing socio-economic conditions the rural population has meagre
access to these services and the problem of this denial is
accentuated for the elderly and the infirm residents of our
villages. This is where ICARE has stepped in and established an
effective rural out reach programme which covers an approximate
radius of 200 Kms from the base hospital at Noida, providing modern
ophthalmic services to the poor and the aged: even at their
doorstep, if required.
ICARE was set up nine
years ago as the realization of a dream of Dr Sushil Choudhry, a
renowned eye surgeon. He established the Hospital in 1983 as a small
beginning and as a charitable activity from the Trust left by his
late mother. In the early years the operations were performed in his
home in New Delhi and the patients – mostly from slum areas -- were
provided eye care and he too arranged their transportation.
ICARE Charitable Eye Hospital came into formal existence in June
1993 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh with very modest infrastructure. Later,
a modern operation theatre with equipment donated by Manos Unidas of
Spain was set up. In the nine years since then, the hospital has
come a long way.
It is now a hi-tech
hospital with state of the art facilities, and it also runs
prestigious training programs. It has a large building, with
modern operation theatres and well equipped out patient department. |

Modern, quality ophthalmic care is provided to one and all - the
poor and the needy, the aged and the young. As part of its
educational activities, its most noteworthy achievement has been
accreditation to the National Board of Examination for conducting
DNB courses which are post graduate courses of two and three years
akin to MS/MD and the World Bank aided training programme for IOL
implant cataract surgery course.
A unique achievement has been the completion of 10,000 surgeries in
the year 2001-2002 thus restoring eyesight to 10,000 visually
handicapped people.
Patients screened and identified for cataract surgery at the Rural
OPDs, are brought to the base hospital at Noida in our ambulances.
Their stay at the hospital includes food, medicines,
cataract surgery with IOL implant and other ocular surgeries & transportation back to their
home villages.
