We met Braham dev a father of four in a camp at Seemapuri. He drives a Auto rickshaw and is the only bread earner in the family. His kids are under the age of 15 and go to the government school nearby. In 2015 his vision started diminishing in his left eye, he went to the private hospital and got himself checked. The private hospital told him he had a cataract which could only get cured through a surgery, which will cost him 30,000 Rs. For a Auto diver with a huge family to support and who’s earning had been affected largely as he could not drive the auto after six in the evening this was a huge amount. He came back home disheartened, trying to figure out how will he arrange the money. This surgery had to happen as he could only driver the auto when he had perfect vision. He had met with many accidents in the last one year to understand the importance of this surgery. His concern was if he takes a loan against is auto for the surgery, how will he pay it back as there was no one else earning in the family and whatever he earned could only just meet the families expenses on a daily basis. He went to his friend asking for financial help, His friend understood his problem and suggested that he goes to the eye camp which happens in Seemapuri. Two of his relatives had got their eyes operated at ICARE Noida for free, the surgery were both successful and their vision was restored completely. Brahamdev saw a ray of hope and decided to the camp. Our team at the camp Tested his eyes and diagnosed cataract in his left eye. He was counseled and told about the fact the surgery would happen free of cost. He was transferred to the base hospital in Noida, where the surgery was carried out successfully.
